FTE £26,922, 24 hours per week over 4 days, 6 months fixed term

We are looking for a motivated and practical Assistant Estates Officer to support the Estates Manager in ensuring safe, compliant, and well-maintained workspaces across our hospice and satellite retail outlets.

This is a hands‑on, multi‑skilled and physically demanding role suited to someone with a background in general maintenance, facilities, or a multi‑trade/handyperson environment. You will be a key part of keeping our buildings safe, functional, and welcoming for patients, visitors, staff, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist the Estates Manager with day‑to‑day estates operations across hospice and retail sites.
* Carry out routine inspections, compliance checks, and essential maintenance tasks.
* Complete hands‑on work including:
o Painting & decorating
o Minor plumbing repairs
o Basic electrical tasks (e.g., changing fittings, troubleshooting simple issues)
o Small joinery jobs and general maintenance
* Respond quickly and effectively to maintenance issues, resolving problems where possible.
* Escalate issues that require higher‑level intervention in a timely and accurate manner.
* Maintain clear and accurate reporting and record‑keeping supporting compliance and safety standards.
* Support contractor activity on site and ensure work is completed safely and professionally.
* Contribute to planned maintenance, small projects, and site improvements as required.

About You

You will be someone who:

* Has a multi‑trade or handyperson background with confidence in practical maintenance tasks.
* Understands (or is willing to learn) key compliance requirements in estates and facilities.
* Shows a ‘can‑do’ attitude, with problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach.
* Communicates clearly and records work accurately.
* Is computer literate.
* Is comfortable working independently as well as part of a supportive team.
* Holds a valid driver’s licence with the ability to drive Hospice vehicles as required.
* Takes pride in maintaining safe, compliant, and welcoming environments.
* Willingness to take on tasks outside of a specific remit as required to support the Hospice.
* Willingness to take on additional training as required to develop the role.
