Job Title: Solutions Engineer

Salary: £49,000-£65,500 per annum

Location: Cambridge, Hybrid (2-3 days per week in Cambridge)

Contract: Full time, permanent, 35 hours per week

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

Are you a technically skilled problem-solver with a passion for turning architectural vision into actionable solutions? We're looking for a Solution Engineer to join our growing Customer Identity team in Cambridge.

About the Role

As a Solution Engineer, you'll be the crucial link between solution design and software development. Reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager, you'll translate high-level architecture into detailed technical specifications that guide our development teams to success.

You'll work closely with Solution Owners, Developers, and Technical Stakeholders to ensure clarity, alignment, and quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

* Deconstruct solution architectures into modular components and data flows.
* Create detailed technical specifications including API contracts and integration points.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to align business goals with technical execution.
* Provide technical direction and support to developers.
* Ensure solutions meet architectural, security, and performance standards.
* Maintain clear documentation of system architecture and decisions.
* Mentor developers on best practices and architectural patterns.

Key Relationships

You'll work daily with:

* Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Architects, Developers, QA, and DevOps teams.
* Central architecture and project offices.
* Third-party technology suppliers.

What You Bring

Essential:

* 5+ years as a development engineer and 2+ years in a technical lead role.
* Strong programming skills in Java, Python, JavaScript, NodeJS, React.
* Experience with CI/CD tools and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
* Proven ability to create detailed technical specifications and manage technical stakeholders.

Preferred:

* Experience with Customer Identity Management platforms.
* Familiarity with frameworks like Spring, Angular, Selenium, and Cucumber

* Able to think holistically and dive into technical detail when needed.
* Self-organised, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies.
