Job Summary
As a School Health Assistant (SHA) you will work within the School Nursing Service as part of a skill mix team, supporting the delivery of integrated, evidence‑based services for children and their families. The role is based in varying localities across BNSSG, working alongside School Nursing Teams and other members of the Public Health Nursing Service.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver the Public Health Nursing Service vision and engage with transformation programmes to support change.
* Work in partnership with children, young people, families and schools to deliver evidence‑based interventions that promote the health of children aged 5 to 19.
* Provide support alone or with a team, maintaining regular supervision and offering additional support to colleagues when required.
* Maintain a flexible, warm and reflective approach, committing to ongoing development of skills and knowledge to uphold service standards.
* Allocate across two localities: 21 hrs per week with the North team based in Southmead (7 hrs per week in the East team based in Barton Hill). This includes supporting the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) – arranging school dates and measuring children’s height and weight with follow‑up.
* Plan, organise, deliver and evaluate health promotion activities, including those agreed as part of local healthy weight pilots.
* Adopt a partnership approach using a person‑centred, psycho‑social model of support and a strength‑based approach guided by evidence‑based information.
* Demonstrate an understanding of trauma‑informed practice and its relevance to partnership work with families.
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous record keeping in line with local and national guidelines and policy.
* Support the local implementation of the Healthy Child Programme and other public health programmes such as EBI programmes.
* Plan, deliver and record allocated work while liaising with School Nurse Associates (SNA), School Nurses and other colleagues.
