Purpose of Post

Working for a busy Day Activities Centre, the post holder will be required to motivate and support the Enabled Centre clients to engage in the activities and ensure their personal care needs are met in a safe and dignified manner.

This is for a 0hour contract to cover annual leave or staff absence between Mon - Fri in between 9:30am - 4:30pm. You will have the flexibility to decide which shifts you would like to cover. This position would be ideal for someone who has another job and would like flexibility to undergo additional hours each week.

Main Responsibilities & Duties of the Post

* To assist service users with personal care needs in a respectful and dignified manner.
* Be resilient and assist to manage behaviours that challenge
* Work closely with the service user to help them to identify and address their support needs and provide them with practical and emotional support.
* Provide intensive one-to-one support or many-to-one for personal care and/or activities
* Assist to serve lunches, hot drinks and refreshments
* Provide support and social interaction for service users to engage in the specialist activities on offer
* Arrange, deliver and support to engage in activities
* Assist the activity co-ordinators with activities
* Ensure the storage and correct safe administration of medication.
* To work closely with other colleagues to ensure that information is shared.
* Report writing and updating files, ensuring that any changes/concerns are reported.
* Support with community-based activities e.g. swimming, gym sessions, trips etc
* Ensure that any concerns and safeguarding issues are reported to management promptly.
* Handle cash for lunches and tea bar purchases
* Ensure professional boundaries are always maintained and behaviour is professional and acceptable.
* Support service users to commute to and from day trips outside of the centre.
* Support service user whilst out on day trips.
* Ensure individual needs are recognised and support is provided appropriate for that individual
* Ensure the necessary infection control is carried out throughout the day and after personal care tasks
* Clearing and tidying throughout the day, ensuring work spaces remain as clutter free as possible and at the end of each session
* Attend training sessions and meetings as instructed
* Observe and implement confidentiality with each of the service users
* Observe and implement the organisational policies and procedures

The duties and responsibilities of this post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility involved.

Essential Skills

1.Excellent observational skills to identify signs of physical or emotional problems

2.Able to respond to the needs of the establishment in times of crisis

3.4.Must have excellent communication skills

5.Must be physically fit and able to support with manual handling

6.Able to work well in a team and use own initiative when necessary

7.Must have a caring, empathetic nature, whilst maintaining professional boundaries

8.Ability to listen patiently and motivate individuals

9.Must show a commitment to working with disabled people from all backgrounds i.e. physical, autism, learning difficulty, mental health, minority ethnic groups etc

Desirable

1.Knowledge and understanding of different impairments and the resulting effects

2.Ability to communicate in other languages or techniques e.g. Makaton

1. Training and/or experience in epilepsy and administering buccal midazolam

2. First aid training

3. Training and/or experience in de-escalation techniques in behavioural risk management

4. Skills to manage behaviours that challenge in a safe and dignified manner giving the individual the chance to participate in activities

5. Moving and handling training

6. Full UK Driving License (D1 category desirable but not essential)

Experience:

Support Environment: 1 year (Preferred)

NVQ Level 2 Health & Social Care (Preferred)

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Pay: £12.44 per hour

Expected hours: 1 per week
