To Work in the Portering Department at Conquest Hospital on a alternating shift pattern.
Monday to Sunday 0800-1600 and 1430-0000 on a alternating shift pattern
Will also be trained to work in the waste department to cover shifts as and when required
A Hospital Porter needs to demonstrate:

A Hospital Porter will:

Main duties of the job
Movement of patients, escort of patients and visitors.
* Mortuary duties
o Bodies to be transported to the mortuary as require
* In the absence of the mortuary assistant to:
o Arrange access to the mortuary for appropriate persons as directed.
o It may be necessary to assist Ambulance crews and/or Contracted Funeral Director during admission.
Deliveries
* To provide a collection and delivery service as required for internal specimens, theatre/x-ray lists.
Equipment, Furniture and Fittings
* Patient related equipment to be clean and in good repair, defects to be reported to the Duty Team Leader.
* Furniture and other equipment to be moved around the hospitals when and where required
Medical Gas
* The delivery of empty/full cylinders as required. This will include manifold rooms and associated piped gas systems.
* To attend to or report any defects with the medical gas supply as required.
Emergency Procedures
* To attend the appropriate ward or department immediately with the appropriate equipment and assistance upon hearing the alarms for:
o Cardiac arrest / Lucas Machine
o Major incident, Hazchem and CBRN incidents
o Traumas
o Helicopter landing
o Fire alarm
o Patient Collapse

Qualifications
* Evidence of good general education, including Maths and English
* Knowledge of portering role / NVQ level 2
Experience
* Previous experience of working as part of a team
* Customer Service or relevant experience relating to NHS
Skills
* Knowledge of general hospital environment
* Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised
* Good communication skills both verbal and non-verbal
* Ability to complete basic written reports
* Ability to prioritise duties against set parameters
* Must be able to carry 56lbs in weight
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device
