Environmental Consultant – Southwest
Location: Exeter or Bristol (with flexible working options)
Contract Type: 12-month contract
Rate: £244.89/day Umbrella
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant to support a key highways infrastructure design contract as part of a national renewals framework. This role offers the chance to contribute to a high-value, multi-disciplinary highways programme, delivering environmentally sound infrastructure solutions in collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams.
The Role
You will be part of a wider environmental team providing expert support on highway drainage and civil schemes. Duties will include:
* Advising on environmental aspects such as assessments, ecological studies, permitting, and mitigation strategies.
* Conducting environmental site visits, inspections, and surveys across multiple disciplines (structures, geotechnical, drainage, highways).
* Preparing high-quality reports and technical documentation for planning submissions and statutory consultations.
* Supporting the preparation and audit of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), and advising on Section 61 consents.
* Coordinating with clients, regulators, and internal teams to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
* Contributing to bid writing and supporting junior staff as needed.
Requirements
* Proven experience as an Environmental Consultant or similar, ideally with highways or infrastructure project exposure.
* Excellent understanding of UK environmental legislation, planning processes, and best practice.
* Competent in environmental risk assessment and hazard management in line with CDM regulations.
* Strong report writing, client liaison, and stakeholder communication skills.
* Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related subject.
* Practitioner membership of IEMA (PIEMA) or similar professional body preferred.
