About us Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the planet's health. Activity is underpinned by high-calibre science technology platforms and state-of-the-art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students. This is an exciting opportunity to join the research group of Professor Jürg Bähler as a Laboratory Manager. We investigate the roles of unknown genes during cellular quiescence and ageing using fission yeast and turquoise killifish as model systems. We apply diverse genetic/genomic, cell biology, molecular/biochemical, and computational approaches to analyse gene function and cellular regulation, complex ageing-associated processes, and the relationships between the genotype, phenotype, and environment. More information on the Bähler laboratory is available here: https://bahlerlab.info/ About the role The main purpose of this position is to manage the efficient running of the laboratory by providing technical support and training for group members, and by maintaining the research environment, supplies and equipment. This is a key role in assisting the team with the planning, organization, and delivery of a substantial, Wellcome-funded research programme to explore the roles of unstudied proteins in cellular quiescence and ageing. There may also be an opportunity to pursue your research project. The appointment will be for 4 years initially, with the possibility to extend for another 4 years. This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff.
