This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to take ownership of statutory reporting, financial controls, audit management, and team leadership within a complex and rewarding environment. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will work closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation, including Development and Operational teams, providing expert financial guidance and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities – Financial Reporting & Compliance
* Lead the preparation of the organisation's consolidated and individual statutory accounts, together with those of its trading subsidiaries.
* Ensure full compliance with relevant accounting standards, including RCCA and UK GAAP.
* Manage the annual external audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for auditors and coordinating all audit requirements.
* Provide technical accounting expertise and guidance on complex financial transactions and reporting matters.
* Maintain and continuously improve financial controls, processes, and governance frameworks.
* Work closely with the Development Office to ensure donations, grants, and fundraising income are accurately recognised and reconciled.
* Oversee regular reconciliations between financial and fundraising systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
* Support Gift Aid and Discretionary Trust tax claims, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and maximising income opportunities.
Team Leadership
* Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing finance team, creating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
* Set objectives, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development across the team.
* Manage the day-to-day activities of the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Finance Administration functions.
* Ensure month-end processes are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
* Review and monitor control accounts, reconciliations, and suspense accounts to maintain financial integrity.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Build strong relationships with colleagues across the organisation, promoting financial awareness and accountability.
* Provide guidance and support to non-financial managers on financial procedures, controls, and value‑for‑money principles.
* Contribute to strategic finance projects and process improvement initiatives.
About You
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
* A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
* Significant experience in financial accounting, statutory reporting, and audit management.
* Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and statutory accounting requirements.
* Experience managing and developing finance teams.
* Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial matters to non‑financial stakeholders.
