Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Assistant practitioner in Medicine and Oncology Occupational Therapy Team, based on the City Campus. You will be involved in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with complex physical and cognitive needs, working alongside a large multi-disciplinary team to support patients discharge from hospital. Some clerical and administration tasks will also be undertaken (eg keeping records, filing, photocopying). You are expected to work independently.
Responsibilities
* Involvement in assessment, progression and discharge planning, implementing rehabilitation programmes delegated by registered staff.
* Take responsibility for your own caseload, working both independently and alongside other members of the team.
* Gather information about home circumstances, complete functional assessments, order equipment and provide rehabilitation and planning discharges.
* Work with a variety of patient groups including those managing long-term conditions or receiving end of life care.
* Help patients manage the symptoms they are experiencing due to their condition.
* Provide informal supervision to more junior staff and contribute to student placements and team teachings.
* Non-clinical duties including photocopying and filing.
* Excellent communication skills are required to communicate with patients, carers and members of the MDT.
Experience and Qualifications
* Experience of working in therapies within a health or social care setting.
* Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a busy environment and to work well in a team or on your own.
* Willingness to contribute to weekend and bank holiday shifts as part of the service-wide rota.
* Brit NHS/NUH context knowledge is desirable (not required to be stated as a fact).

The Occupational Therapy service is part of the Therapies, Outpatients and Phlebotomy Services (TOPS) Directorate, within the Specialist Clinical Services care group. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the directorate leadership team have AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.
