This position provides professional individual and group counseling to students and works with other educators and staff to provide educational and support opportunities for students. This position also provides primary oversight to Engle Center drug and alcohol programming.
Position Summary
A Master’s degree in a counseling-related field is required, with a professional license preferred. Experience with drug and alcohol counseling is also preferred.
Education and Experience
* Master’s degree in a counseling-related field
* 2 years counseling experience in a college setting required
* 2 years experience with addictions counseling preferred
Skills and Characteristics
* Ability to assess and diagnose mental health and substance abuse disorders
* Knowledgeable with applying a variety of counseling treatment modalities
* Understanding of developmental psychology as it pertains to college-age students
* Thorough understanding of addictions counseling, brief interventions, motivational interviewing and the referral process for appropriate levels of care for substance abuse disorders
* Ability to empathize with students and relate well to a diverse student body
* Ability to facilitate groups
* Excellent organizational and program design skills
* Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
* Ability to work independently
* Ability to conduct effective program assessment
Primary Duties
* Provide individual counseling to students under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and Health Services
* Produce and maintain client case documentation in keeping with professional standards
* Collaborate with other departments or staff in providing support for students
* Provide screening of adjudicated and self-referred substance users
* Lead educational groups for substance users
* Provide consultation, education, motivational interviewing training, and outreach services to faculty, staff, and students on substance-related issues
* Plan, communicate, and present one campus-wide drug/alcohol program per semester
* Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
* Attend meetings as requested
Secondary Duties
* Serve as a resource person to the University on matters relating to substance abuse issues
* Other duties as assigned
