Zachary Daniels are working exclusively retained with Metacarpal to recruit an Operations Manager based at the National Robotarium in Edinburgh. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Operations Manager will lead operations, manufacturing and organisational systems through their next stage of growth.
Metacarpal are a multi-award winning R&D company that has developed the world's first mechanical bionic hand.
What makes them unique compared to competitors is that they have designed a bionic hand that is entirely powered and controlled through body motion. This means no electronics. This point of difference is a strong asset, as they can offer greater functionality, reliability and robustness at a lower cost and weight.
Prior to launching their product into production last year, they tested their prototypes with potential customers internationally and received glowing feedback. They have ambitious growth plans to expand quickly across UK, US and then the rest of the world.
Role overview:
The Operations Manager will oversee all operational, manufacturing, and administrative functions at Metacarpal, ensuring that their ambitious goals are achieved efficiently, compliantly, and at scale
This role requires a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-moving environment, balancing strategic planning with on-the-ground execution
You will manage production and supply chain operations, oversee regulatory and quality compliance, lead the UK team, and work closely with the CEO to translate company vision into actionable plans and measurable outcomes
Key responsibilities:
Operations & Manufacturing
Oversee all day-to-day operations across manufacturing, logistics, and administration
Manage and make key purchasing decisions across the supply chain, ensuring production timelines are met and quality maintained
Plan and monitor the manufacturing schedule, balancing stock levels, demand forecasting, and supplier performance
Maintain clear communication of operational timelines and milestones across UK and US teams
Quality & Regulatory
Hold full control of the Quality Management System (QMS) for Class I medical devices, ensuring compliance with UKCA, CE, and FDA requirements
Oversee ECN, CAPA and other standard processes
Drive continuous improvement in quality systems, documentation and process control
Support regulatory submissions and maintain audit readiness at all times
Experience required:
Demonstrated experience in senior operations or manufacturing leadership within a hardware, medtech, or regulated device company
Advanced understanding of QMS requirements for Class I medical devices and related regulatory framework
Managing supply chains, and cross-functional operational teams
Solid grasp of data analysis, performance metrics, and continuous improvement methodologies.
