A Technical Lead-Design plays a crucial role in the Gas Turbine and Rotary Machine industry, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and products. The role involves ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The candidate will provide technical guidance and support to the team, develop and implement engineering processes and procedures. As a Technical Lead-Design, responsibilities include supervising engineering teams, establishing project goals and timelines, managing design processes, conducting risk assessments, coordinating with team members, partners, and clients, ensuring regulatory compliance, implementing technical standards, solving technical issues, and providing expert advice on mechanical systems.
Work Experience
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design transformation systems, gears, gearboxes, and marine engineering components.
2. Develop mechanical specifications, scopes of work, technical calculations, engineering drawings, and project timelines.
3. Understand reverse engineering of gas turbine components such as nozzles (NGVs), bearings, turbine discs, blades, and shafts.
4. Utilize 3D scanning techniques for gas turbine component analysis and replication.
5. Knowledge of Dry Low Emission (DLE) technologies for land-based gas turbines is an advantage.
6. Proficient in design software including Solid Edge, Siemens NX, AutoCAD, and related tools.
7. Deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet client approvals.
8. Lead and delegate tasks effectively within the team, maintaining oversight and involvement as needed.
9. Apply structured change control processes, communicating their implications to stakeholders.
10. Motivate and guide teams to meet goals under pressure or setbacks.
11. Lead design review meetings with clarity and technical authority.
12. Mentor and develop the next generation of mechanical engineers and designers.
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
1. Design proficiency in transformation systems, gears, gearboxes, and marine engineering.
2. Experience in producing mechanical specifications, scopes of work, calculations, drawings, and schedules.
3. Familiarity with main design packages such as Solid Edge, Siemens NX, AutoCAD.
4. Result-oriented mindset, ensuring client satisfaction and high-quality delivery.
5. Effective delegation and oversight within the mechanical discipline.
6. Implement solid change control procedures, managing budget and planning implications.
7. Leadership skills to motivate teams and achieve targets despite setbacks.
8. Ability to chair design review meetings confidently.
9. Enjoyment in teaching and coaching young mechanical engineers and designers.
Work Experience Requirements
* Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
* Experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Rotary Machine industry.
* Experience in heavy engineering, power transmission systems, and gas turbines (land and marine-based).
* Knowledge of quality management systems and standards.
* Proficiency in root cause and failure mode analysis techniques.
* Strong problem-solving, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
