Waste & Resource Management Chargehand (Recycling Centre)Honeycomb is delighted to be partnering with a local government organisation to recruit a Waste & Resource Management Charge hand (Recycling Centre). This role plays a key part in supporting the day-to-day operation of the Council's Household Recycling Centres, ensuring high standards of customer service, health and safety, environmental compliance, and operational performance.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced supervisor or charge hand with a background in waste management, recycling, refuse collection, street cleansing, or a similar operational environment.The RoleAs Waste & Resource Management Charge hand, you will support the Waste & Resource Management Supervisors in the day-to-day operation of the Council's Household Recycling Centres. You will provide front line supervision of operational staff, ensuring sites are safe, compliant, customer-focused, and operating efficiently.This is a temporary role for 3 months on a rota basis between Monday-Sunday. (The shift pattern is a 4 weekly rotation to include 2 weekends in the 4)This role will cover all recycling centres in the borough.Key responsibilities will include:Supporting the daily operation of Household Recycling CentresSupervising and coordinating Waste & Resource Management OperativesMonitoring site performance and maintaining high standards of service deliverySupporting compliance with environmental, waste management, and health and safety legislationAssisting with the management of fleet, plant, equipment, and site resourcesMaintaining operational records and performance informationSupporting employee attendance management and workforce planningDelivering inductions, toolbox talks, and operational trainingResponding to customer enquiries and complaints and promoting excellent customer serviceParticipating in public awareness and recycling education activitiesAssisting with recruitment, disciplinary, grievance, and absence management processes when requiredDeputising for Waste & Resource Management Supervisors as requiredThe successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across all facilities and support other Waste Management functions as required.The PersonEssential CriteriaA minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C) including English and Mathematics, or equivalentORCandidates who do not hold the above qualifications must demonstrate a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience as outlined belowANDA minimum of 1 year's supervisory experience within a relevant operational environment, such as: Refuse collectionStreet cleansingHousehold recycling centresWaste management operationsStrong organisational and time management skillsAbility to work effectively with minimal supervisionWorking knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and safe working practices, including manual handlingProficient in Microsoft Office and Windows applicationsFull current UK driving licence and access to a car required.
