Job Purpose
The Evidence Translation Specialist will be responsible for driving a range of research, writing, and evidence translation projects. This includes researching, synthesising, and curating evidence-based content on gambling harms, and shaping complex epidemiological and public health findings into clear, compelling outputs for diverse audiences. The role requires excellent research and writing skills, subject knowledge, and the ability to deliver high-quality outputs across multiple streams of work.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Knowledge Development
* Research and synthesise current evidence on gambling harms, with a strong emphasis on epidemiology and public health impact.
* Write and edit accessible outputs for public, policy, and academic audiences.
* Develop concise briefs, case studies, fact sheets, and knowledge summaries.
* Undertake or support systematic, scoping, or rapid reviews as required, guided by the organisation’s priorities and the postholder’s expertise and capacity.
Project Delivery and Support
The Evidence Translation Specialist will contribute to the timely delivery of the following through collaboration with external experts, peer reviewers, and lived experience contributors:
* Gambling Explained: a public-facing, accessible knowledge product.
* Gambling Tactics: resources exposing industry strategies and practices.
* Lobbying mapping: tracking and synthesising industry and political influence from a range of stakeholders.
* Evidence submissions: drafting and coordinating responses to consultations and inquiries.
* Website pages: developing knowledge summaries and fact sheets for broad dissemination.
* Publications: contributing to or leading peer-reviewed articles (typically, systematic and literature reviews), policy papers, and other written outputs that advance GHUK’s research and public health agenda (depending on interest, confidence, and time).
* PR & marketing: supporting the creation of research-informed materials and messaging for external audiences.
* Funding bids: supporting preparation of grant applications and related materials.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Strong knowledge of gambling harm, especially its epidemiology, public health impacts, and social, regulatory, and policy dimensions (e.g. how gambling is structured, managed, and normalised in society).
* Excellent writing and editing skills, with a track record of producing high-quality, accessible written outputs.
* Ability to translate complex research into clear, engaging content for non-specialist audiences.
* Ability to work independently and quickly integrate feedback.
* IT proficiency, including collaborative writing tools and table design.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in producing public-facing reports, brochures, or knowledge translation products.
* Demonstrated creativity in aligning written content with visual communication.
* Prior publication of gambling-related articles, reports, or public engagement materials.
* MSc or PhD in public health, epidemiology, population health, medicine, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
* Lived experience of gambling harm (personal or through supporting others).
Terms
* Start date: ASAP
* Hours: Flexible, up to full-time equivalent (possibility of two part-time roles).
* Contract: Freelance contract, initially 6 months, with potential extension on a rolling basis.
* Induction: From 7th November 2025 onwards
