ABOUT THE ROLE

At Low6, we build scalable, engaging, and highly customizable free-to-play gaming experiences. With several product lines running simultaneously across a global user base, we're looking to strengthen our engineering foundations with a hands-on Azure DevOps Engineer to bring order, observability, and automation to our infrastructure and delivery processes.

As our first dedicated DevOps hire, you will play a pivotal role in transforming how we build, deploy, secure, and operate applications across our platform. This role is both strategic and hands-on. You will work directly with our developers to embed DevOps principles and tools into our workflows while independently designing and implementing modern best practices across infrastructure, security, and observability.

This is a full-time role offered on an initial 3-month basis, with the potential to become permanent. We are open to working with either independent contractors or candidates on a fixed-term PAYE contract. Please note that we are only considering applicants based in the UK.

RESPONSIBILTIES

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Cloud Architecture

* Revamp and standardize our existing OpenTofu (Terraform) codebase for Azure infrastructure provisioning.
* Implement and enforce best practices around modularisation, provider aliasing, environment segregation, and remote state management.
* Create robust, repeatable, and self-documenting infrastructure modules to support multiple teams and projects.
* Guide the team in adopting a GitOps-style workflow for all infrastructure changes.
* Containerization and Cloud Deployments
* Define and maintain containerized deployment workflows using Docker and Azure Container Apps, App Services, or AKS.
* Optimize our multi-region deployment strategy for scalability, availability, and cost-efficiency.
* Help enforce standardization around image building, tagging, vulnerability scanning, and promotion across environments.

Observability and Monitoring

* Drive platform-wide improvements in monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting, using tools like OpenTelemetry, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics.
* Work closely with application developers to define service-level indicators (SLIs), objectives (SLOs), and error budgets.
* Ensure infrastructure observability is built into our tooling and that failures are detected and escalated automatically.

CI/CD and GitHub Actions Automation

* Audit and consolidate our existing GitHub Actions workflows into centralized, reusable, and parameterized actions.
* Design and enforce best practices around build matrix, artifact promotion, secrets handling, environment gating, and role-based deployment workflows.
* Automate end-to-end workflows for deployment, rollback, testing, and infrastructure updates.
* Reduce developer friction by introducing templates, documentation, and training.

Security and Access Control

* Lead our security posture modernization efforts, including the migration to Azure Entra ID (formerly AzureAD) for managing access across services.
* Implement secure API-to-API authentication patterns, including token management, auditing, and least-privilege access.
* Introduce secrets management using Azure Key Vault, enforce secure defaults in infrastructure provisioning, and work with developers to harden application pipelines.
* Conduct threat modeling sessions and help evolve our DevSecOps culture.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

* Proven, hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, especially using OpenTofu or Terraform on Azure.
* Deep knowledge of Azure services, including networking, identity, storage, containers, and observability tools.
* Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or similar.
* Practical experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, including composite actions, matrix builds, and secrets handling.
* Strong understanding of DevSecOps, cloud security principles, and zero trust architecture.
* Hands-on experience with Azure RBAC, Managed Identities, Service Principals, and secure API authentication.
* A security-focused mindset and strong sense of infrastructure hygiene.

Advantagoues:

* Experience with cross-platform secrets management like SOPS or HashiCorp Vault.
* Familiarity with cost optimization and performance tuning of Azure services.
* Knowledge of release strategies such as blue-green deployments and canary releases.
* Prior experience in a startup or being the first DevOps hire in a small team.
* Familiarity with policy-as-code using Azure Policy or OPA/Gatekeeper.
* Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s), preferably with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
* Ability to write and maintain K8s manifests using Helm, Kustomize, or plain YAML.
* Understanding of K8s RBAC, network policies, and workload security best practices.
* Comfortable with kubectl, troubleshooting pods, and managing resources in AKS clusters.

WHY JOIN LOW6?

* Ownership of critical infrastructure initiatives
* Your work will directly impact the realiability and scalability of our platform
* You'll set-up the engineering culture for platform security and automation
