Location: Kings Lynn (the first 4 weeks will be based in Norwich – expenses for travel will be paid)
Hours: 8:45am to 4:15pm
Working Pattern: Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Pay: £12.71 to £19.06 per hour
Duration: Temporary for 12 weeks initially to assess success, with potential to become ongoing/permanent.
We are recruiting for a proactive, confident and highly customer‑focused Shop Assistant to work in a stand‑alone retail environment on a recycling site. This role suits someone who is comfortable working independently, takes pride in presentation standards, and enjoys actively engaging customers to promote the purchase of quality second‑hand items.
Following a training period you will be the sole on‑site representative, responsible for the smooth daily operation of the shop and for delivering an excellent customer experience, supported by the site manager.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the main point of contact on site, welcoming customers and providing friendly, informed advice on second‑hand items for sale.
Engage proactively with customers, encouraging reuse and supporting purchasing decisions by highlighting item condition, value and suitability.
Ensure all items are checked for quality, safety and cleanliness before display.
Merchandise and display stock attractively, maintaining high visual and presentation standards at all times.
Manage pricing, stock rotation and general organisation of the shop floor.
Handle cash and card transactions accurately and securely.
Maintain a clean, safe and well‑organised environment, including compliance with site policies and basic health & safety expectations.
Work confidently as the sole person on site, taking ownership of opening/closing procedures when required.
Communicate effectively with colleagues and managers based off‑site, escalating issues when necessary
What We’re Looking For
A self‑motivated and reliable individual who is comfortable working independently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a confident, approachable manner.
Experience in face‑to‑face customer service (retail, reuse, charity shop or similar environments highly desirable).
Strong attention to detail and pride in presentation and standards.
Fully capable of taking responsibility for a site during operating hours.
Full UK driving licence and own transport (essential due to location).
Flexibility to support other locations when required.
Key holder and/or cash handling experience desirable but not essential
