Aim of the Post

The post holder will lead and deliver clinical pharmacy services to gastroenterology patients, ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred pharmaceutical care, while also providing cross-specialty medicines optimisation leadership. This includes:

* Leading gastroenterology pharmacist-led clinics, post-induction reviews, and IVSC switches (e.g., Vedolizumab).
* Supporting evidence-based prescribing, therapy optimisation, and Homecare coordination.
* Driving medicines governance, audits, and evaluation of high-cost therapies.
* Delivering quality improvement initiatives and supporting implementation of protocols and guidelines.
* Releasing medical and nursing capacity through advanced pharmacy practice.
* Lead the delivery of medicines efficiencies across high-cost specialty areas and providing assurance to the board that savings are being achieved

Key Responsibilities

* Provide clinical pharmacy leadership within gastroenterology and across high-cost acute specialties.
* Deliver person-centred advanced therapy reviews and support MDT working for complex gastroenterology patients.
* Lead medicines optimisation projects, including biologic therapy switches and cost-saving initiatives.
* Oversee governance of medicines management within Acute Services
* Support data collection, audit, and reporting to demonstrate impact and savings.
* Engage with primary and secondary care colleagues to ensure continuity and best practice.
* Contribute to service development, strategic planning, and workforce innovation.
* Line management responsibilities for the Acute Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
