Performs the duties of a Sleep Lab Technician, scores sleep records of patients, and prepares reports for physician interpretation.
Responsibilities
1. Performs duties of a Sleep Lab Technician and evaluates PSG and MSLT recordings. Generates computerized PSG reports.
2. Interprets raw data: scores polysomnograms for sleep stages using standardized criteria, computes parameters such as sleep latency, sleep efficiency, and sleep stage percentages, and analyzes apneas and arousals (muscle and spontaneous).
3. Determines heart rate ranges for waking and sleeping stages. Identifies and quantifies abnormalities in cardiac activity and respiration. Recognizes normal and abnormal patterns, artifacts, and sleep/wake stages.
4. Assists with marketing the sleep lab to the community and staff physicians.
5. Provides information to medical staff regarding test capabilities and requirements to increase understanding of polysomnographic testing. Provides in-service education as needed.
6. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications
Vocational/technical training and at least one year of relevant experience or equivalent are required. Registered Polysomnography Technologist certification is also required.
Physical Environment
The job typically requires work involving eye/hand/foot coordination for most of the workday.
