Some roles are about filling a gap.
This one is about making a real difference.
We’re working with a supportive school in BS7 looking for an experienced SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with complex, high-level needs from September.
This role needs someone calm, confident, and highly skilled in behaviour support. Someone who understands that behind every behaviour is communication, and who can respond with patience, consistency, and emotional intelligence, even during the most challenging moments.
You’ll play a huge part in helping this young person feel safe, understood, and able to engage with school life in a positive way.
What the role involves
• Providing consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with complex SEN and SEMH needs
• Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using proven strategies and a calm approach
• Creating a safe, structured environment where the pupil can build trust and confidence
• Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and outside professionals to follow tailored support plans
• Building a positive relationship while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
We’re looking for someone who…
• Has strong, hands-on experience supporting children with SEN and SEMH needs
• Feels confident managing complex behaviour in a calm and professional way
• Is patient, resilient, and emotionally aware
• Can build genuine, trusting relationships with pupils
• Brings a steady, positive presence into the classroom every day
• Understands that progress can look different for every child, and celebrates the small wins too
Why this role matters
This isn’t an entry-level SEN position. It’s a role for someone experienced, reflective, and passionate about supporting children who need the right person beside them.
The impact you’ll have will go far beyond academics. You’ll help shape a child’s confidence, emotional safety, and day-to-day experience of school.
If you’re Thrive trained, fantastic, schools really value this approach and it provides a brilliant foundation for this kind of support. If not, don’t worry, we can help you access our free Thrive training to build your skills even further.
What we’ll need to get you started
We like to keep things straightforward so you can focus on the role itself.
To get you cleared quickly, we’ll need:
• A valid passport
• Two proofs of address, such as a driving licence, utility bill, or council tax letter
• An up-to-date CV covering your work, education, or placements, with any gaps explained
• Two years of references, including recent school or placement experience
• An overseas police check if you’ve lived abroad for three months or more in the last five years
If you’re someone who can stay calm in the chaos, build trust over time, and genuinely wants to make a lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you.
