Purpose BII is seeking a Data Analyst to join our dynamic Analytics & Insight team, a group positioned at the very heart of our organisation’s data-driven strategy. As a Data Analyst, you will be instrumental in capturing, managing, and analysing impact data for more than 800 investee companies—work that ensures our impact reporting is both credible and actionable. Your responsibilities will span fund reporting, strategic analysis, and assurance support, meaning you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across BII to deliver robust insights. Responsibilities The role is structured to offer a diverse and engaging workload across three core areas: Fund Reporting for Impact Data (≈40%) You’ll play a central role in capturing and managing impact performance data across BII’s portfolio of over 800 investee companies. This includes a wide range of indicators such as financial metrics, employment figures, customer reach, and geographic footprint sourced from quarterly financial and ESG reports. Working closely with Investment and Impact teams, you’ll ensure the accuracy and completeness of data entered into our reporting system. You’ll be responsible for identifying anomalies, maintaining logs of missing or inconsistent data, and liaising directly with investees to resolve gaps. Your work will be critical to maintaining high-quality data that underpins BII’s impact reporting and strategic decision-making. Data Analysis for Strategic Reporting (≈30%) You’ll support the Analytics & Insights Team in conducting high-quality Excel-based analysis using impact data collected from our portfolio. This analysis will directly inform BII’s Annual Review and other external reporting outputs, helping to shape strategic decisions and portfolio management. Your work will also contribute to internal performance tools, ensuring that insights derived from impact metrics are robust, actionable, and aligned with BII’s broader development goals. Attention to detail and analytical rigour will be key, as your outputs will be used across senior-level communications and strategic planning. Assurance Support (≈30%) You’ll provide cover for the Data Assurance Executive during annual leave and peak workload periods, helping to maintain the integrity of BII’s impact scoring process. This includes conducting internal assurance checks on new investments and collaborating with external assurers to verify that impact scores are accurate and evidence-based. Your contribution will be essential to ensuring that BII’s impact reporting remains robust, credible, and aligned with our standards. The candidate Background, skills, aptitude Strong data collection and analytical capabilities are essential, as the role involves gathering consistent and reliable impact data across a large and diverse portfolio of investments. Proven experience in analysing datasets to extract meaningful insights that can inform strategic decisions and operational actions. The Analyst must be highly self-motivated and able to maintain focus during extended periods of work in spreadsheets and data systems. Exceptional attention to detail and perseverance are critical, with significant time dedicated to retrieving, reviewing, and interpreting large volumes of data from varied sources including annual reports, financial statements, and impact documentation. All data must be collected in line with standard definitions and established procedures to ensure its validity, consistency, and integrity across reporting outputs. Technical Skills Advanced Excel skills are essential, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in automating analysis workflows. Solid working knowledge of Power BI and Microsoft PowerPoint, enabling effective data visualisation and presentation. Proven ability to input, validate, and analyse large datasets with precision and consistency. Comfortable working with accounting terminology and financial documentation. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving data issues. Effective project management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks and deadlines. Familiarity with complex data platforms and systems used for enterprise-level reporting and analysis.
