St George’s Church of England Foundation School is seeking to appoint an ambitious and inspirational Director of Learning – Foundation Subjects to join our Extended Leadership Team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding middle leader or aspiring senior leader to shape curriculum intent, drive high standards of teaching and learning, and secure excellent outcomes for all pupils across our Foundation subjects: History, Geography, Religious Education, Citizenhip, Modern Foreign Languages, Personal Development, Applied Law, Psychology and Sociology. The successful candidate will teach Geography.

The Role
The Director of Learning will lead and manage teaching and learning across the Foundation subjects, ensuring strong curriculum design, effective implementation and measurable impact.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Leading and developing teachers across History, Geography, RE, Citizenship, MFL, Personal Development, Applied Law, Psychology and Sociology to raise attainment and achievement.
2. Designing and reviewing a curriculum that reflects national requirements and supports clear progression.
3. Monitoring teaching, learning and assessment to ensure consistency and high standards, including moderation and mock examinations.
4. Using national, local and school data to evaluate performance and implement targeted intervention.
5. Ensuring accurate tracking, reporting and examination entries.
6. Managing departmental budgets and resources effectively.
7. Contributing to whole-school leadership and ongoing school improvement.
The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner in Geography with a proven track record of impact, strong analytical skills and the ability to inspire both staff and students. You will demonstrate high expectations, effective leadership experience and a commitment to inclusive practice.
