Clinical Lead Physiotherapist (Pelvic Health)

This vacancy is only available to those currently employed by STSFT within the Pelvic Health service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist Physiotherapist to take on the role of Clinical Lead Physiotherapist within the Pelvic Health Service at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

Alongside having advanced clinical skills, this role will lead on the implementation and delivery of the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service within the Trust, as well as providing leadership and clinical support for the established Physiotherapy Pelvic Health Service.

The Post will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but will involve cross‑site working.

You will manage a varied caseload, including elements of extended scope practice. The role will also involve working alongside the wider multidisciplinary team, including provision of appropriate training for Midwives and Physiotherapy staff.


Main duties of the job

The Post requires an advanced knowledge of the Physiotherapy management of Pelvic Health conditions and the ability to work as a highly specialised, extended scope, advanced autonomous practitioner, treating complex physiotherapy conditions.

To provide leadership and clinical support for the established Physiotherapy Pelvic Health Service and for the development of Perinatal Pelvic Health Service (PPHS) across South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

To evaluate the day‑to‑day running and development of the Pelvic Health and Perinatal Pelvic Health service through the promotion, adaptation and development of policies, procedures and guidelines using evidence‑based practise and current research to recommend and implement changes.

To act as a specialist/advanced physiotherapist resource for physiotherapists within the Trust, this will include education.

To deputise in the absence of senior colleagues as required.

To provide speciality specific advice with regards to service planning. To be fully aware of service specific issues, gaps, pressures, staffing and opportunities.

To support the management team in developing the Physiotherapy service.

To maintain professional development through participation in relevant professional training programmes.

To assist in raising the profile of the Physiotherapy service.

Job responsibilities

Experience

* Substantial and proven post‑registration experience with proven experience at team leader level with managerial responsibilities.
* Relevant, comprehensive specialist experience incorporating experience within specialism.
* Evidence of working within multidisciplinary cross‑agency teams.
* Evidence of working on strategic planning and service development.
* Evidence of effective leadership.
* Evidence of facilitating change/innovation.
* Experience of operational line‑management including managing sickness, annual leave, performance and professional development.
* Evidence of high‑level communication skills within a wide variety of clinical and managerial settings.
* Proven experience of mentoring and training both staff and students.
* Experience of undertaking/leading project work and audits.


Qualifications

* BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or equivalent.
* HCPC Registration.
* Evidence of successful completion of postgraduate courses, in specialist area.
* Postgraduate Management or leadership qualification to be completed within one year.
* Postgraduate certificate, Diploma or Masters‑level qualification in Leadership.
* An understanding of STSFT, its culture and strategic direction.


Skills & Knowledge

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to and with all grades and levels of staff and the public including MDT/multi‑agency and regional/national level.
* Ability to provide and receive highly‑complex or sensitive information and to adapt communication style to deliver this in an accessible and appropriate way.
* Counselling and negotiation skills essential in the effective deployment of staff on a daily basis for the implementation of policies and procedures and joint working with other healthcare professionals.
* Excellent organisational skills and the ability to foresee the wider implications of any action taken are required in the day‑to‑day operational management of the Department with clinical, technical and administrative staff.
* The deployment of resources to manage capacity and demand for both individual clinics and the Department.
* Excellent time‑management and prioritisation skills are required to manage own and the workload of all grades of staff to meet both Trust and Departmental deadlines.
* Excellent clinical leadership skills, acting as a role model for all grades of staff with the ability to facilitate change management.
* High level of expertise regarding the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of Pelvic Health conditions, in‑line with current practise and research.
* Advanced technical and diagnostic skills to support the assessment of complex Pelvic Health patients.
* In‑depth knowledge of the principles of clinical governance/audit/research.
* Understanding of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working with key stakeholders.
* Knowledge of national policies, guidelines, and procedures relevant to health and social care.
* Knowledge and application of professional standards and code of conduct.
* Excellent teaching/training, mentoring and supervision skills of physiotherapy staff and other professionals as part of peer review and continuing professional/ personal development.
* Expertise in the presentation of written and oral information in a clear and logical manner. A pro‑active ability to represent the profession and the Trust with positive enthusiasm.
* Commitment, motivation, and ability to have a flexible approach.
* Ability to meet the physical aspects of the role.
* Knowledge of the strategic direction of the local health commissioner and providers.
