Overview
A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) in Operating Theatres works as part of the multidisciplinary team, assisting with the preparation of theatres and patient care during surgery.
Responsibilities
* Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
* Undertake housekeeping to maintain a suitable theatre environment.
* Provide physical and psychological support to patients.
* Assist the surgical team with assigned tasks.
* Adhere to confidentiality policies.
* Prepare operating theatres for surgery, setting up equipment and instruments, and entering data into computers.
* Clean and maintain theatres and store areas.
* Assist theatre practitioners during theatre lists.
* Assist in the anaesthetic room prior to surgery.
Key Requirements
* Must be a Health and Care Assistant with a Care Certificate or complete a self‑assessment form before the interview.
* Experience within an operating theatre or hospital environment is desirable but not essential.
* Good communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to work in a fast‑paced, busy environment.
* Must be currently in the UK; preferred to have current experience of working in a UK healthcare setting.
* Eligibility for UK immigration as required; sponsorship may not be possible if the role does not meet the minimum salary threshold or is not on the ISL.
Working Hours & Conditions
Full‑time, 37.5 hours over 3 or 4 days, shifts 07:30–19:30 Monday to Friday. Cross‑site working with Wexham Park and Heatherwood hospitals may be required.
