Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Occupational Therapist to join the Acute Inpatient Team at a leading NHS hospital specialising in Orthopaedics and Adult Medical services. This temporary locum role offers the chance to contribute to the rehabilitation of adults in an acute inpatient setting. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team to provide essential occupational therapy services to individuals recovering from surgeries, medical conditions, and injuries.
Key Responsibilities
Assessments & Interventions: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, cognitive, and functional needs, providing tailored interventions to promote recovery and independence.
Orthopaedic & Adult Medical Focus: Provide occupational therapy services to patients in both orthopaedics and adult medical specialties, including post-operative rehabilitation and managing complex medical conditions.
Rehabilitation: Implement evidence-based therapeutic activities and programmes aimed at improving patients' functional abilities, including daily living skills and mobility.
Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Work closely with nurses, physiotherapists, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
Patient Education: Provide education and training to patients and their families about self-care techniques, adaptive equipment, and strategies for functional independence.
Discharge Planning: Contribute to the discharge planning process by assessing patient needs and coordinating appropriate community services and resources.
Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in line with professional standards and NHS guidelines.
Person Specification
Essential
Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent).
HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registration.
Experience in orthopaedics or adult medical settings, ideally in acute inpatient care.
Strong clinical reasoning and the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to patient-centred care.
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Desirable
Experience in acute orthopaedic rehabilitation or adult medical rehabilitation.
Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment used in rehabilitation.
