Associate Hospital Manager

An exciting opportunity to join a panel of Associate Hospital Managers. Delegated role is to review people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 on behalf of the Trust. The Independent Review Panel (IRP) holds the power under Section 23 of the Mental Health Act to discharge a patient from detention in hospital or community when criteria are no longer met.
As an Associate Hospital Manager you will:
* Review renewal of detention in hospital, extensions of Community Treatment Orders and appeals against detention.
* Participate in panel hearings held between 9:30 am and 4 pm, Monday‑Friday; hearings may also be arranged on an ad‑hoc or short‑notice basis.
* Prepare for hearings by reviewing reports from relevant professionals and contributing to unanimous decisions on discharge.
* Attend twice‑yearly training events, meetings and any additional sessions to stay up‑to‑date with legislation and case law.
* Have the opportunity to chair the panel, subject to a competency assessment.
* Represent local communities and ensure an inclusive, effective process safeguarding patients.
Panel hearings are currently conducted via Microsoft Teams; a hybrid format of virtual or face‑to‑face hearings is planned. Hearings may take place at various locations across Cheshire and Wirral.
Qualifications
* Ability to communicate in other languages, including British Sign Language.
Knowledge and Expertise
* Awareness and interest in mental health issues.
* Awareness and understanding of Equality & Diversity issues.
* Effective communication with patients, representatives, clinicians and other relevant professionals.
* Basic IT skills: use of laptop/tablet, e‑mail, accessing reports and Microsoft Teams.
