The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity within the JFD Engineering Team for a Senior Biomedical Engineer to join the team working on exciting new health technology being integrated initially into our Submarine Rescue Systems, beyond our other capability areas. The successful candidate will lead a multidiscipline project team delivering biomedical health monitoring solutions to be deployed in aid of submariners during rescue operations. The successful candidate will primarily work on developing health technology within the Biometrics & Condition Monitoring team. Our ideal candidate will have experience developing medical / health monitoring equipment and an interest in IOT devices and wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi). The successful candidate will provide embedded biomedical engineering design solutions for our health monitoring technology, to be deployed in aid of submariners during rescue operations. The successful candidate will primarily work on developing health technology within the Biometrics & Condition Monitoring team. Role Accountabilities Provide biomedical engineering design input to new systems and products and provide support to the existing product range by assessing technical queries. Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, supply chain and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances. Creation of part numbers and bill of materials and sourcing suitable components and materials when required. Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports and checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation. Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget and adhere to engineering and company standards and processes (compliance to internal and external standards and regulations). Accountability and responsibility as the discipline technical approver of drawings and documentation generated within the JFD engineering team. Where applicable, responsible for promoting engagement to achieve a resilient diverse high performing team. Where applicable, the line management of a small team on performance, development, allocation/delegation of work and compliance to internal and external standards & regulations and develop and mentor team using competence framework and training, development plans and performance appraisals. Skills, Experience and Qualifications Demonstrated experience in a similar role. Proven biomedical engineering skills. Minimum bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. Preferred masters or doctorate degree in biomedical engineering or equivalent. Experience in developing technology for diving applications would be advantageous. Knowledge of medical and health monitoring technology. Knowledge and experience with wearable technology would be advantageous. Experience with rapid prototyping for biomedical applications. Comfortable working cross-discipline (Mechanical, Software, Electronics) to steer the development of biomedical solutions. Competent in the use of engineering design software tools / CAD packages. Knowledge of design standards. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages. Experience working to marine, defence, medical standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV). Knowledge and experience of medical device regulation (e.g. EU MDR, FDA 510(k)).
