An exciting opportunity has arisen to employ a Mechanical Services Clerk of Works. This post will form part of the M&E Capital Projects team, within Property Services' Energy and Engineering team.
The role will allow individuals to carry out Quality Control inspections for multi-disciplinary activities and projects within Perth and Kinross Council's Property Estate.
This will include replacement of, or new, mechanical building services such as ventilation systems including MVHR, AHU, general supply and extract, LTHW systems including Air Source Heat Pump fed circuits, Underfloor Heating circuits, gas boiler circuits, Domestic Water (hot and cold) systems, Air Conditioning systems, and other Mechanical Services Installations in a building services environment.
In the role you will be involved in new build projects and the refurbishment of existing properties such as schools, libraries, leisure centres, Council houses and all other public buildings.
The Clerk of Works will play a vital role in achieving high level outcomes on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council by ensuring that a consistently high standard of supervision, safety and quality control is maintained for each contract. Essential functions of the role involve conducting site visits, producing regular site reports and assessing contract implementation with due regard to building and health & safety legislation.
Other key aspects of the Clerk of Works roles include:
* Ensure regular attendance on assigned projects, including attendance at relevant project meetings as advised by PKC's technical Engineering staff.
* Establish effective and engaging relationships with PKC's own internal engineering team, the wider PKC project team and with other relevant stakeholders within assigned projects.
* Establish effective and engaging relationships with external contractors and design teams.
* To interpret by checking that the contractor fully understands instructions given verbally and on drawings and acting to remove any ambiguity.
* To anticipate construction, specification or site management problems in advance to prevent these materialising on site and if so to overcome them quickly.
* To monitor workmanship and ensure quality standards are maintained to the highest level in respect of the Council's property aspirations and obligations.
* To assist the CDM-Principal Designer in ensuring the Council's duties under the current edition of the Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations are compliant.
* To regularly report to and converse with the Lead Technical advisor and/or Contract Administrator via means of on site attendance and written site reports documenting ongoing installations.
* To maintain efficient and accurate records of events and actions by both contractor and architect.
* To contribute to the advancement of efficiencies in the way the Council constructs and maintains its properties.
Skills & Experience Required
We are looking for individuals who have experience of inspection, surveying and design relating to the Mechanical Engineering discipline within a Building Services Environment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an up to date knowledge of regulatory and industry standards applicable to Mechanical Services installations within commercial and education environments.
To undertake the role, we require candidates to have excellent planning and organisational skills along with the ability to complete and implement surveys, reports and project reviews within target deadlines.
Must be capable of developing innovative solutions and demonstrate knowledge of existing low/zero carbon technologies and an awareness of current government and PKC initiatives.
The successful candidate must be highly self-motivated, confident and demonstrate a keen willingness to work alongside PKC's engineering team as well as the ability to work well within the hierarchy structure of our internal and external project teams.
An outgoing, confident and professional attitude is also essential along with the willingness to provide technical support to other areas of the business and external clients as required.
Other essential requirements for the role are for individuals to demonstrate excellent communication skills; both orally and written.
You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
