Short Description

As a Program Aide, you will be responsible for providing educational, relational, and social experiences for infants, toddlers, and/or preschool-aged children to foster growth and development in all developmental domains. You may be assigned to various classrooms, centers, bus routes, cafeterias, or kitchens, assist with daily classroom management, and perform other duties as needed. You will be a frontline representative of Save the Children, ensuring the safety and security of children and families, and adhering to the agency's values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity, and Integrity.


Summary

Program Aides are generalists responsible for providing educational, relational, and social experiences for young children. You will report to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director and may need to travel to different program sites or conduct home visits. Your duties include assisting with classroom activities, supporting janitorial and kitchen tasks, and fulfilling other operational roles as assigned. As a contact with children, you are expected to prevent child abuse through awareness, good practices, and reporting, while promoting child safety and safeguarding obligations.


Essential Duties

1. Apply clear practices and procedures in daily tasks.
2. Organize and manage time effectively.
3. Keep your manager informed of important issues.
4. Build effective relationships with children and families.
5. Follow oral and written instructions.
6. Assist classroom staff and serve as a temporary substitute when needed.
7. Provide custodial support, including cleaning and maintenance tasks.
8. Complete routine kitchen duties, including food preparation and serving, and participate in related tasks.
9. Perform additional duties such as serving as a Bus Monitor, attending meetings, and understanding program standards and regulations.
10. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies and procedures.


Required Qualifications

* Must be at least 18 years old.
* High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
* Certification as required by local or state regulations.
* Within 90 days of employment, obtain and maintain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certifications.
* Knowledge of working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.
* Ability to relate sensitively with children and communicate effectively with staff and families.
* Ability to follow directions and work independently.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Ability to work with children with disabilities.


Additional Qualifications

Physical ability to perform medium to heavy work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, and other physical activities. Must pass background checks and health requirements. Valid driver’s license may be required. Preference given to current or former Head Start/Early Head Start parents.
