Family Practitioner Supported Housing – Ilford
Location: Ilford | Salary: up to £31,000 | Hours: Full‑time (primarily 10:00‑18:00, with some evening/weekend shifts depending on service needs) | Reporting to: Supported Housing Manager
Join our respected supported housing provider as a Family Practitioner. Your work will support vulnerable families and help parents build a safe, nurturing environment for their children.
About the Role
The role offers meaningful impact in the lives of parents & babies living in supported accommodation, with potential to work within a Residential Family Centre if required.
Key Responsibilities
* Parenting & Child Support
o Build trusting relationships with parents to support emotional wellbeing.
o Promote positive parenting, healthy attachment, routines, and child development.
o Encourage engagement in play, learning, and age‑appropriate activities.
o Provide guidance on safe sleep, feeding, health appointments, and daily care.
* Safeguarding & Risk Management
o Monitor the welfare of babies and identify any developmental or safety concerns.
o Carry out risk assessments and contribute to safety plans.
o Record and report safeguarding concerns in line with statutory procedures.
o Work closely with social workers, midwives, and health professionals.
* Promoting Independence
o Support parents with life skills such as budgeting, meal planning, and household routines.
o Provide advice on tenancy responsibilities and move‑on options.
o Encourage engagement in education, training, or employment.
* Practical & Emotional Support
o Assist parents to attend appointments and community activities.
o Offer emotional support around mental health, relationships, or trauma.
o Facilitate workshops and group sessions that build confidence and parenting skills.
* Record‑Keeping & Administration
o Maintain accurate case notes, support plans, risk assessments, and reports.
o Attend key working sessions, professional meetings, and reviews.
o Ensure all documentation meets audit and regulatory standards.
* Teamwork & Professional Development
o Participate in team meetings, training, and supervision.
o Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a safe, supportive environment.
o Uphold high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and EDI principles.
Person Specification
Essential
* Experience supporting vulnerable families, young parents, or children.
* Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and parenting support.
* Excellent communication, empathy, and relationship‑building skills.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately in emergencies.
* Good organisational and record‑keeping abilities.
* Relevant qualification in Social Care, Early Years, Youth Work, Health & Social Care, or related field.
* Ability to work independently and within a multi‑agency team.
Desirable
* Experience in supported housing or residential family centres.
* Understanding of trauma‑informed practice and mental health.
* Knowledge of welfare benefits, housing pathways, or family law.
