Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Catering Supervisor to work within the RVI Catering Department, recognized as Team of the Year 2022.
The role is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Catering Department, working 37.5 hours a week, over 5 days in a 7-day rotational roster, including 2 weekends out of 3. You will be part of a small supervisory team under the guidance of a Senior Supervisor, ensuring the smooth operation of the department. The working hours are between 6:00 am and 2:00 pm, and 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm on a 3-week rotational schedule.

Main duties of the job
Your main responsibilities will include:
1. Supervising catering staff of up to 70 employees.
2. Facilitating communication between catering, wards, and departments.
3. Managing menus through the Catering system and ensuring they are displayed in wards.
4. Preparing daily work sheets, rosters, and managing overtime, holidays, and sickness.
5. Using the in-house allocation system for payroll and holiday management.
6. Ensuring compliance with the department's HACCP system.
7. Maintaining health and hygiene standards to meet regulations.
8. Monitoring patient food service to ensure quality, presentation, and accuracy.
9. Interacting with ward staff effectively.
10. Optimizing resource use, staffing, and additional hours.
11. Conducting staff appraisals, departmental inductions, and providing risk assessment, moving and handling, and first aid training.
12. Collaborating with the Diet Chef to meet patients' dietary needs and allergen information.
Knowledge of various cooking methods and relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds 706/2 or NVQ Level 3 in Food Preparation, along with Level 2 Food Hygiene, or equivalent experience in large-scale catering, are advantageous.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* NVQ Level 3 Supervisory Leadership or equivalent experience
* Level 2 Allergen and Intermediate Food Hygiene qualifications or equivalent
* City & Guilds 706/2 or NVQ Level 3 in Food Preparation
Knowledge & Experience
* Basic IT skills (Word, Excel)
* Experience in customer-focused environments
