As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and delivering projects on Thames Water buildings. This includes structural projects (Lifecycle) and facilities for staff (Welfare) across various buildings, including Listed and operationally critical structures.
You will oversee a portfolio of projects ranging from approximately £30,000 to £2 million, from initial scoping to completion, including reporting and handover management. This role offers a good work-life balance within a collaborative team and requires travel across the Thames Valley and London Region.
Key Responsibilities
* Scope projects independently, liaising with operational specialists to ensure comprehensive project scope.
* Manage tender processes with framework contractors, including review and award decisions.
* Ensure CDM compliance, acting as Client and managing Principal Designer and Contractor, ensuring safe, timely, within-budget delivery.
* Coordinate with the Controller of Premises for pre-construction information and review contractors' safety documentation.
* Induct contractors and communicate site hazards and safety issues.
* Maintain high standards in health, safety, environment, and quality through organized administration.
* Manage contractor performance and resolve site issues.
* Forecast and report project spending, escalating issues as necessary, and adhere to governance procedures.
Note: A driving license is required as the role involves travel, supported by a car allowance.
Location and Hours
Based at Newbury or Swindon, with travel to project sites. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
Candidate Requirements
* HND/HNC/BEng/NVQ Level 4 in relevant fields or strong construction/maintenance background.
* Experience in construction or facilities management.
* Proven ability to scope projects and manage contractors.
* Strong project, financial, and communication skills, with knowledge of safety and legal standards.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Customer-focused approach with professional relations skills.
