Job Purpose : Over the past few years, we have worked hard to develop a Families 1st Strategy with the aim of keeping children and families together safely.
Our approach is based on a restorative model of practice. We are developing our interventions using the models for ‘Safe and Together’ and ‘Safe and Meaningful Contact’ and ‘Together or Apart’. We have expanded our team of therapeutic life story practitioners and are growing our lifestory capacity with ‘All About Me’. To support our efforts we have dedicated teams working across the Council for Scottish Child Interview Model, Kinship and Family Group Decision Making.
Highland Council was one of four organisations awarded Bairns’ Hoose affiliate status in October and we provide a hub and spoke model to meet the 11 Bairns’ Hoose standards - providing welcoming venues for children across the Highlands in Inverness, Wick, Alness, Skye and Fort William and ensuring access to trauma-informed recovery, support and justice.
We have dedicated Children’s Rights and Participation Officers and we are committed to co-design of services with people who have lived experience. We have introduced the use of Mind of My Own throughout Highland to make it accessible for children to let us know their views and wishes.
Our Newly Qualified Social Work supported year programme ensures that newly qualified colleagues are supported to meet their CPL requirements for SSSC and to help them make the transition from education to the workforce. Our terms & conditions are excellent, and we offer a wider range of employee benefits.
