This role will support the Head of Legal to provide accurate and timely advice to all areas of the business and ensure that strategic and business objectives are delivered with legal risks monitored and controlled. It also involves anticipating, reviewing, and implementing new legislative and regulatory requirements affecting SCUK, maintaining the profile of legal risk management as a priority within the business. Please note this is a hybrid role requiring at least 3 days per week in the Redhill office; remote work is not considered. Responsibilities include:
1. Acting as a point of contact for legal matters and advice for the business
2. Reviewing relevant laws and regulations and collaborating on their implementation
3. Providing interpretation and impact analysis of relevant laws/regulations
4. Drafting and reviewing consumer finance agreements, regulatory notices, and maintaining compliance
5. Supporting remedial plans, advice, and incident management
6. Managing public-facing legal documents like terms of use, disclosures, privacy policies, and cookie policies
7. Reviewing and approving financial promotions and advertisements
8. Assisting with product reviews and regulatory horizon scanning
9. Supporting legal and business projects with documentation and recommendations
10. Enhancing the profile of legal services within the business
11. Attending meetings and industry forums as directed
12. Managing external legal support
13. Managing risks related to Santander's policies and regulatory guidelines
14. Performing ad hoc tasks as assigned
15. Supporting governance activities, including policy review and company secretarial tasks
16. Ensuring compliance with Consumer Duty standards
Qualifications include:
* Qualified Solicitor/Barrister/Attorney/FCILEX with 0-5 years PQE and relevant experience
* Strong academic background, including a degree
* Extensive experience in Consumer Credit and Retail Financial Services within an in-house legal team
* Deep industry knowledge of regulations affecting consumer finance, including CONC, SYSC, SUP, and others
* Experience advising on compliance matters such as GDPR, competition law, anti-bribery, sanctions, and AML
* Knowledge of UK regulatory framework, FCA rules, especially in Motor Finance
* Project management experience and ability to present to senior management (desirable)
* Excellent communication skills and relationship-building ability
* Corporate governance experience
