Hydraulic Test & Development Engineer / Test Engineer (Hydraulics, R&D, Validation)
Wolverhampton
This is an exciting role working on safety-critical hydraulic systems used in advanced waste processing technology—own test programmes from concept through to validation.
Overview
We’re looking for a Hydraulic Test & Development Engineer to lead testing and validation of complex fluid power systems used in industrial waste processing equipment.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll design and run hydraulic test programmes, work closely with design teams, and directly influence product performance, safety, and reliability in a regulated environment.
If you enjoy solving real engineering problems—pressure, flow, endurance, failure analysis—this role offers strong technical depth and visibility across the full product lifecycle.
What You’ll Be Doing
Plan and execute hydraulic testing including pressure, flow, endurance, leak, and functional testing
Design and configure test rigs, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
Carry out development and validation testing to support new product design
Analyse test data, identify trends, and deliver clear engineering recommendations
Write test procedures, test plans, and technical reports
Support design reviews, FMEA, and verification & validation activities
Investigate failures and lead root cause analysis on hydraulic systems
Work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and commissioning teams
Improve test methods, processes, and equipment capability
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
Experience as a Test Engineer / Development Engineer / Validation Engineer
Strong background in hydraulic systems / fluid power
Hands-on experience with hydraulic testing (pressure, flow, endurance, leak testing)
Knowledge of valves, pumps, actuators, accumulators, control systems
Experience writing test documentation and reports
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Strong problem-solving skills (DoE or structured test methods beneficial)
Desirable:
Experience with data acquisition systems, sensors, instrumentation
Familiarity with FMEA, verification & validation, qualification testing
Exposure to regulated environments (e.g. ISO 9001, ASME)
Experience with tools such as NI DIAdem or similar
Why Apply?
Work on safety-critical, real-world engineering systems
High level of ownership across testing and development lifecycle
Opportunity to influence design performance and reliability
Collaborative engineering environment with strong technical input
