Position Role : The role of Director Afghanistan Inquiry Response (Army) (DAIR(A)) and his team is to represent CGS at hearings of the Independent Inquiry relating to Afghanistan (IIRTA) – the most serious set of allegations facing the Department in a generation – to identify likely findings and recommendations, to support the welfare of Army witnesses and to develop Army evidence for the Inquiry. DAIR(A) and the team support the MOD and MAB response to the Inquiry on joint work as required. This role encompasses being the Army’s day-to-day staff officer for the principal officer directing the Army response relating to the IIRTA. Responsibilities : 1. Act as the DAIR(A)'s principal staff officer. 2. Maintaining situational awareness on the progress and requirements of the Independent Inquiry relating to Afghanistan (IIA). 3. Identification of likely findings/recommendations of the IIA, with a view to possible refinements to Army structures, policies, and practices. Plan for Army post-Inquiry response. 4. Advising MOD on questions relating to Army-relevant aspects as required. 5. Undertake due diligence on documentation and research as required by AIR Dir. 6. Co-ordinate DAIR(A)'s meetings and diaries as required. 7. Attending hearings of the Inquiry as appropriate to observe proceedings. 8. Coordinating Army Historical Branch responses to requests for information and evidence from MOD/IIRTA. Tasking relevant Army areas and processing product back through to MOD. Avoiding duplication and ensuring consistent high quality of response which addresses the issues. 9. Performing other tasks within AIR as required.
