Role Overview
Mechanical Engineer – Pressure Systems Compliance – Hinkley C Nuclear Power Station project.
Location: North‑West Bristol, close to the M4/M5 junction or Bridgwater, Somerset – 3 days per week on site, 2 days from home.
Salary: £50,000 – £70,000 plus travel allowance.
Start: May 2026 onwards.
The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in the office, with the rest worked from home. Frequent travel abroad (mainly to France) will be required. Candidates must obtain nuclear site security clearance.
Responsibilities
* Support the development and maintenance of the pressure systems compliance and structural integrity requirements for their appointed work scope (normally specific projects within a programme).
* Ensure that project policies, processes and contracts are implemented and delivered to the right quality to manage pressure systems regulation and structural integrity safety case requirements.
* Responsible for arbitration and technical decisions on HPC's behalf in regards to pressure systems regulation and structural integrity compliance for their programme.
* Manage on behalf of the Programme Pressure Compliance Team Leader the pressure systems compliance and structural integrity requirements.
* Maintain personnel SQEP status to support nuclear baseline requirements.
Knowledge and Skills
* Managing structural integrity and pressure regulation compliance requirements in the nuclear industry.
* Mechanical engineering design and operation of pressure equipment.
* Working in a multidisciplinary and matrix environment.
* Working with regulators and supply chain companies to coach through the pressure compliance process.
* Nuclear industry experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to plant in the UK would be advantageous.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree qualified in a related Engineering or Science based discipline.
* Chartered Member of an appropriate professional institution or capable of being chartered would be advantageous but is not essential.
* Relevant experience in large scale project or asset management within a highly regulated industry sector such as Power Generation, Nuclear Industry, defence or Oil & Gas / Petro-Chemical.
* Relevant experiences in relation with the engineering topics associated to pressure systems manufacture, installation, structural integrity and conformity assessment.
* Experience in multi-cultural industrial projects.
