Overview
The Environmental Manager position is responsible for ensuring that construction work complies with environmental regulations related to waste, water, energy, and other environmental matters.
Responsibilities
1. Attend relevant functional sustainability team meetings.
2. Contribute to the development of the Sustainability Management System.
3. Promote the Sustainability Management System, Strategy, and 2030 Sustainability Roadmap for continual improvement.
4. Share knowledge and best practices across projects and functions.
5. Understand and ensure compliance with the company’s Sustainability Policy, Procedures, and statutory requirements.
6. Develop and implement actions to meet sustainability objectives and targets.
7. Ensure site-level compliance with the Sustainability Management System, including supporting the review of the Project SEEP and related documentation.
8. Assist with project Sustainability MS compliance audits and external audits by certification bodies.
9. Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors on environmental management and sustainability matters.
10. Support the monitoring and reporting of sustainability performance against KPIs.
11. Maintain and develop personal knowledge and competencies related to Environmental Management.
12. Provide advice on preventing environmental incidents and handling complaints, including implementing company policies.
13. Lead investigations of environmental incidents and support controls to prevent recurrence.
14. Advise on obtaining legal permits, licenses, exemptions, and managing materials as needed.
Experience
1. Minimum 5 years of environmental experience in construction or similar environments.
2. Experience with roads and highways projects.
3. Experience working with EPA, local authorities, and community groups.
4. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
5. Experience supporting environmental inspections and audits.
6. Ability to apply legal, technical, and regulatory information to construction processes.
7. Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
8. Proficient IT skills.
9. Developing analytical and problem-solving skills.
10. Influencing skills and managing challenging conversations.
11. Experience engaging with senior management on compliance matters.
Qualifications
1. Relevant degree and/or professional qualification.
2. Associate (Practitioner) IEMA Membership.
3. Incident Investigation Training (desirable).
