Do you care about the quality of Scotland’s water?

At Scottish Water, we are always thinking about how we can continue to deliver the fresh, clean water that Scotland relies on – both now and in the future. One way is by constantly investing in the critical infrastructure at our Water Treatment sites.

Join us as a Senior Service Planner to transform how we deliver high quality water, help us make smarter investment choices, and enable sustainable growth that supports a flourishing Scotland.

What you’ll do

You’ll be part of the Water Treatment Team, helping to develop complex projects and investments at our sites across Scotland.

You will take on responsibility for filters and membranes within the team where you will assess risks, develop projects and manage investment to ensure the resilience and performance of these critical systems— allowing us to safely continue the supply of drinking water to our customers.

There are some complex projects and problems to tackle and you’ll have to work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver improved value, efficiency, service excellence and Net Zero.

Within this role you’ll also be encouraged to take innovative approaches to address technical challenges at water treatment works and across Scotland’s drinking water systems.

You’ll will be given the autonomy to work creatively and flexibly within a collaborative and supportive team environment and shape the future of some of Scotland’s critical national infrastructure.

What you’ll need

Not surprisingly, you’ll need experience of working in asset/strategic planning or involvement with engineering projects. If that was in the field of water treatment, even better.

You’ll have experience of working on the early stages of asset engineering projects, with a good understanding of root cause analysis, risk assessment and health & safety. It’s not essential but having an asset planning and/or engineering background would be very helpful.

We’ve got big plans, and don’t have time to do one thing at a time, so you’ll need to be able to work across multiple projects at different stages in their lifecycle, and often demanding timescales. You will also have to work closely with our project managers, delivery partners and operations teams to achieve your objectives – so you’ll know how to discuss and collaborate on complex technical risks and make evidence-based decisions.

Character is important to us. At Scottish Water we look for people who are Bold, Responsible, Inspiring and Caring – and you can expect these characteristics to make an appearance at your interview.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

The normal working pattern for this role is flexible, but we would typically expect you to be available for the majority of time Monday to Friday 9-5pm. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events, we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? Applications with part time or flexible working requirements will also be considered.

For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £44,030. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £55,000.

The team covers the whole of Scotland, so this role can be based at any of our main office locations, e.g. Fairmilehead, Stepps, Dundee, Perth, Inverness. We operate a hybrid working model, so you can expect to spend some days at home, some days in the office and some days out on site visits.

Please include with your application a role specific covering letter (maximum 500 words) outlining your reason for applying and why you believe you are suitable for the role.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 19th August 2025.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
