Job overview

Hull University Teaching Hospitals are currently looking for Perioperative Support Workers to work in the Day Surgery Centre, based at Castle Hill Hospital.

The Centre provides state of the art Day Surgery facilities, in multiple specialties, for patients in the Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire and wider area.

The successful candidate will be used to working in a busy, challenging environment and have a flexible approach whilst working along side team members to meet the needs of both the patient and service.

The post holder is responsible for supporting the Registered Perioperative Practitioner in the delivery of direct patient care procedures, transfer and assisting in the maintenance of patient comfort throughout the Day Surgery Centre in Pre and Postoperative Care, Theatre and Recovery areas

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

* Maintain health, safety and the control of infection in clinical work areas.
* Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
* Assist the registered staff to prepare, monitor and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures.
* Support and care for patients during clinical procedures.
* Assist the registered staff with treating patients during clinical emergencies.
* Participation in on‑calls and out of hours working is needed by all theatre staff, regardless of the department they are based in, to provide adequate emergency access to our most acutely ill patients.
* To work in any of the theatre areas according to service needs, regardless of which theatre department they are based in, although it is anticipated that staff do predominantly work in the department they are employed to be based in.

Education / Qualifications

* Basic Maths and English GCSE level or equivalent
* Care Certificate, NVQ level 2 in care or equivalent


Knowledge, Training & Experience

* Experience (through placements or employment) of working in a busy environment providing personal care.
* Previous working experience in a hospital setting
* Experience of using IT based systems and maintaining patient records.


Communication & Interpersonal Skills

* Be able to work on own initiative
* Works well with in a team
* Demonstrates understanding of confidentiality
* Participate in standard setting and research projects
* Evidence showing clinical and professional development
* To be able to plan, assess, evaluate and implement patient care
* Ability to prioritise care associated with changing environment/patient demands
