About the role

As a Teacher of English and Media Studies at Downsend School, you will play a key part in delivering high‑quality, engaging teaching across KS3 to KS5 on a part‑time basis (3 days per week). Working closely with the Head of English, you will help shape a positive, ambitious learning environment where pupils are inspired, challenged, and supported to make strong progress. You will contribute to a dynamic departmental culture, support enrichment activities such as literary trips and media projects, and engage fully with professional development to keep your practice fresh and impactful. You will also collaborate with colleagues across departments and school sites, helping to strengthen cross‑curricular initiatives and ensuring continuity in pupils’ learning experiences.

This is a permanent, part‑time role needed 3 days a week.

Who we are looking for

You are an enthusiastic, committed educator with a passion for both English and Media Studies, and the ability to bring these subjects to life. You combine strong subject knowledge with excellent communication skills and a calm, organised approach. You are confident teaching GCSE and A Level content and eager to stay up to date with developments in your field. You value teamwork, contribute positively to the wider school community, and take a proactive interest in supporting colleagues and pupils alike. Above all, you are driven to create exciting, motivating lessons that spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and foster a love of learning.
