Overview
The Environment Agency is committed to an inclusive workforce reflecting the communities we serve. We are reforming agricultural policy and spending through Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes to provide public goods in return for public money. This role supports the design and delivery of ELM, with a focus on Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT), and contributes to the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, the environment and climate. The role involves influencing incentives, shaping our organisational response to government reviews, and delivering outcomes in partnership with Defra and delivery bodies.
We operate in a fast-paced, agile environment within the Nature & Place Directorate, National Agriculture and Land Team, collaborating with government, statutory bodies, and industry. We welcome flexible working patterns and a dispersed team that uses smart tools to stay connected.
Responsibilities
* Deliver key CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme and contribute to continuous improvement of the scheme through its design and delivery.
* Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, oversee programme milestones, identify risks and resource requirements, and work with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that delivers outcomes.
* Engage with multiple teams and organisations to influence the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of EA strategy and government reforms.
Experience & Qualifications
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who develops ideas and takes them forward.

Location & Travel
You’ll have an EA Office base location, but as a national role the working location is flexible/hybrid in England. Some travel/overnights will be required. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
