SUPPORT WORKER HOMELESS FAMILIES, NOTTINGHAM, PERMANENT, 37HRS, GRADE 2 CORE, £24,000, FTE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Worker to work within The Homeless Families Service to support Homeless Families with low support needs. The service provides temporary supported accommodation for 35 families, 9 families are housed within the core service, staff are also based here. The remaining families are living in dispersed properties within the Nottingham City boundary.
Referrals to the service come from the Local Authority (Housing Solutions) we work closely with the Local Authority to reduce the use of hotels for often vulnerable families. We are looking for workers who respond well to an often-fast paced service and like a challenge. Support will focus on addressing immediate and short-term support needs, resettlement, move-on and rents, these form the majority of tasks.
The safety and Well-Being of families with children is paramount so a focus on Housing Management is a priority. There will be a high turnover of families moving in and out of the service so the accommodation will need to be turned around in a short time span.
We are looking for reliable, friendly and enthusiastic candidates with an understanding of Safeguarding and a desire to work with often vulnerable families and children.
Experience of working in an accommodation setting or similar environment is desirable and preferably, full training will be given.
We welcome candidates with a background working with children and or young people.
Car driver is essential for this post.
Working hours and days are Monday - Friday alternate shift patterns of 8am - 4pm and 10am - 6pm.
Main job purpose;
To provide support to service users in a safe and maintained environment, by support planning, reviewing and assessing their individual risks and needs in order to prevent homelessness and secure and sustain their chosen accommodation.
Main functions of this role;
Work alongside Support Planners and service users to address support needs from the support plan, Carrying out tasks from the support plan.
Carrying out daily and weekly Welfare Checks on service users Well-Being.
Accurate record keeping of tasks.
Provide a Housing Management function (Health and Safety Checks) collection of both ineligible and eligible rent, manage occupancy agreements, void and locality management.
Ensure the accommodation provided is both safe and healthy.
Develop and maintain good professional relationships with internal and external services/support networks.
Advise service users to make informed choices.
Completing paperwork, compiling reports.
Raising and actioning repairs.
Responding to crisis and emergencies.
Delivering a service which maintains a safe environment and meet legal obligations around health and safety and lone working.
To build skills and confidence of service users.
To contribute to contractual service obligations.
Empower service users to maintain health and well being.
Share information appropriately.
To prepare/assist service users in dealing with any problems arising from their accommodation including repairs, disputes, debts and rent arrears.
To focus on move on and resettlement.
