In this role, you’ll take ownership of building and refining automation frameworks across Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. You’ll use Terraform, Ansible and your own ideas to deliver robust automation and smart optimisation approaches that reduce cost, ensure system reliability and support future‑ready cloud environments. You’ll also play a key part in guiding and mentoring colleagues, helping to uplift capability across the team and shape best practice.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Building and implementing cloud automation strategies that improve reliability, scalability and cost‑efficiency.
2. Leading cloud optimisation initiatives to enhance resource utilisation and reduce operational costs.
3. Identifying automation and optimisation opportunities using Infrastructure‑as‑Code and automation tooling.
4. Developing and maintaining automation frameworks and advanced scripts using Terraform and Ansible.
5. Mentoring team members to increase capability in cloud automation and optimisation practices.
6. Ensuring solutions align with business goals and adhere to security standards for UK public sector work.
What you’ll bring:
7. Expertise in Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure delivering scalable automation and optimisation solutions.
8. Advanced knowledge of Ansible and Terraform, including developing complex scripts and frameworks.
9. A strong track record of leading automation or optimisation projects.
10. Excellent analytical skills with a detail‑focused approach to uncovering optimisation opportunities.
11. Strong leadership capability with experience mentoring and guiding others.
12. Security clearance.
It would be great if you had:
13. Experience applying cloud security best practice in line with NCSC guidance.
14. Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
15. Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Splunk, SolarWinds or the ELK stack.
16. Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
17. A project engineering background.
18. A passion for continuous learning and keeping up to date with cloud automation trends.
