Estimator – Power Sector Location: Blackburn Contract: [Permanent / Full-time] A dynamic and rapidly growing Independent Connection Provider is seeking an experienced Estimator to support the delivery of innovative electrical connection and infrastructure projects across the UK. This organisation is known for its friendly culture, flexible working environment, and strong focus on employee well-being and development. ⭐ About the Role The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for civil and electrical works associated with power distribution, transmission, and generation projects, up to 132kV. You’ll work across a wide range of infrastructure, including substations, compounds, overhead lines, and underground cabling, helping to ensure commercially robust and technically compliant bids. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Costing Produce detailed cost estimates for civil and electrical project scopes, including foundations, trenching, HV/MV/LV systems, switchgear, transformers, earthing, and more. Review drawings, tender documents, and technical specifications to define scope and cost parameters. Complete quantity take-offs and prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs). Source, verify, and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations, proactively engaging with the market to ensure up-to-date costs. Develop cost breakdowns, rate analyses, and preliminary budgets. Tendering & Proposal Support Prepare complete technical and commercial tender submissions. Create clear inclusion/exclusion documentation to support internal handovers and client transparency. Collaborate with procurement, design, and project management teams to finalise bids. Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits. Respond to client clarifications and update cost models. Project Coordination & Reporting Work closely with engineers and project managers to align estimates with delivery plans. Update estimates following design changes or revised scopes. Support post-award cost tracking and forecasting activities. Maintain historical cost data for future benchmarking. Risk, Compliance & Quality Identify technical, commercial, and logistical risks and propose mitigation strategies. Ensure adherence to industry standards, grid codes, and utility requirements. Follow internal estimating procedures and maintain high-quality submissions. Develop risk registers to accompany quotations. Qualifications, Skills & Experience Essential Minimum 4 years’ estimating experience within the power sector.
