Job Summary
Costello Medical is seeking a Health Economist to develop quantitative economic models that inform decisions on the efficient allocation of resources within the healthcare sector. The role leverages expertise in Excel, R, C++ and statistical modelling to produce robust, clinically valid evaluations for a variety of stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Build and validate economic models (cost‑effectiveness, cost‑benefit, budget impact) using Excel, R, C++ or similar tools.
* Critically appraise medical and economic literature and apply the theoretical health‑economic framework to projects.
* Fit statistical distributions and survival curves to clinical data, requiring strong statistical knowledge.
* Collaborate with external medical professionals and internal multidisciplinary teams.
* Produce technical, written reports summarising methodologies, results and recommendations.
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously, typically 3–4 concurrent assignments.
Requirements
Essential
* Degree level or higher qualification in a quantitative discipline (min. 2.1). Disciplines include mathematics, economics, physics or computer science.
* Strong Excel skills and VBA knowledge; willingness to learn new programming languages.
* Excellent written and oral communication, able to explain complex modelling to non‑experts.
* Independent initiative combined with collaborative teamwork.
* High accuracy, attention to detail, organisational and time‑management skills.
* Integrity and proactive approach to work and skill development.
Desired
* Postgraduate training or formal degree in statistics or modelling.
* Experience with R, C++, STATA or similar statistical software.
* Industry experience applying economic and mathematical modelling techniques.
