A small specialist school for children aged 5 to 11 in Oxford is looking for a Teaching Assistant to support the social skills, emotional wellbeing and mental health of the students within their school. The school provides an alternative education for children who have social & emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant will work closely with trained professionals including Psychologists and Therapists and will have the opportunity to shadow their work.
Responsibilities
* Support the social skills, emotional wellbeing and mental health of students aged 5 to 11.
* Work closely with trained professionals including Psychologists and Therapists and shadow their work.
* Support children who come to us often feeling confused, with low self-esteem and disengaged from schooling.
* Contribute to an education that is tailored to individual needs, enabling and empowering students to gain confidence and progress their learning.
* Adopt restorative practices as part of the school ethos.
Qualifications
* Ideally a degree in a related field or experience working with young people.
* Resilience and an open-minded approach to supporting mental health challenges, especially for children who have experienced trauma.
