Overview
Join our dedicated and friendly team, supporting the smooth day‑to‑day running of AMU, the DVT service and our Same Day Emergency Care Clinic. This is a key administrative role at the heart of a busy clinical environment, helping us deliver an efficient and welcoming service for patients and their families.
Responsibilities
* Act as a first point of contact for patients, relatives and external professionals visiting the ward; greet patients and visitors on arrival, offering clear and sensitive communication, answering questions where appropriate and directing more complex queries to clinical colleagues.
* Answer telephone enquiries, liaise with patients and families, manage diaries, maintain accurate information on Trust systems and assist with general problem‑solving to support the wider team.
* Liaise with individual team members and other departments as required, in a manner that will contribute to the effective and efficient running of the ward.
* Work within the extremely busy SDEC Clinic and DVT clinic to ensure that notes are created and ready for same‑day patients and that the diary is up to date; call and liaise with patients about attending certain tests or appointments.
* Arrange for the repair of faulty ward equipment.
* Deliver post to patients.
* Open and sort incoming mail and distribute to relevant staff for action.
* Use computers for inputting and accessing general patient information on Trust computers such as ECAMIS, EPR, Agyle, Electronic Diary and Health of the Ward.
* Assist with other duties that may reasonably be required, ensuring sufficient stock of paperwork and stationery supplies, and organise own workload to meet priorities of the service.
* Liaise with agencies external to the ward (e.g. other hospital departments) and organise various models of transport, GPS and surgeries.
* Communicate appropriately with all visitors to the ward area, with confused or aggressive patients, and with patients and relatives relating to imminent admission or discharge.
* Report to the Senior Nurse any complaints, comment or request from patients or visitors.
