Hours of work: 37.5 hrs per week (Monday to Friday 08:00 – 16:00 with one in four Saturdays)

Role purpose
To lead and be responsible for the warehouse operations team of staff and volunteers, managing and coordinating the daily work of the receipt and delivery of food to community groups (CFM’s). Working alongside the Development Team the warehouse operations will expand and develop the food provision in line with the Charity’s Vision and Mission and locally driven demand.
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for leading and managing the warehouse operations team—comprising staff and volunteers—to ensure the effective and safe receipt, storage and distribution of food to Community Food Members (CFMs). The role supports the Charity’s mission by optimising food use, reducing waste, ensuring food safety compliance and deepening engagement with community partners.
This role works closely with the Support Teams and Community Outreach Manager to expand food provision, support community impact and align operations with FareShare Yorkshire’s Vision and Mission.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the day‑to‑day activities of the warehouse operations team, including staff, drivers and volunteers.
* Set work schedules and manage daily operations to ensure smooth and efficient food distribution.
* Provide shift cover when necessary, including making deliveries to CFMs as needed.
* Manage the use of the in‑house stock management system and provide training to ensure accurate food tracking and reporting.
* Support the implementation of new food‑related projects in collaboration with the Development Team and Community Outreach Manager.
* Create and lead a volunteer‑powered team, focusing on recruitment, training, supervision and retention.
* Foster a positive, inclusive and motivating environment for volunteers.
* Maintain overall responsibility for compliance with food hygiene, health & safety, vehicle safety and FareShare Yorkshire policies.
* Ensure all equipment, vehicles and facilities are maintained in accordance with legal and organisational standards.
* Ensure that all relevant documentation is accurate, up to date and properly communicated.
* Work in collaboration with the Community Outreach Managers to strengthen relationships with Community Food Members (CFMs).
* Play a key role in supporting CFMs with food safety, food use best practices and waste reduction efforts.
* Support FareShare Yorkshire’s community‑based initiatives and employability programmes that enhance the impact of food redistribution.
* Work in collaboration with the Supply Chain Manager to ensure food is moved in and out quickly and that the operation has as much good quality surplus as possible for redistribution.
* Contribute to strategic planning discussions around food provision and community engagement.
* Represent warehouse operations and community support needs in internal meetings and planning sessions.
* Work collaboratively with other FareShare Yorkshire teams and external partners to maximise the social impact of surplus food.
* Supervise, train and support staff and volunteers on a daily basis to encourage high morale and strong teamwork.
* Deliver relevant inductions and ensure all team members are adequately trained and supported.
* Maintain clear communication with the SLT and other support teams to ensure operations run effectively, efficiently and compliantly.
* Carry out any other duties as reasonably requested to support the wider goals of the Charity.
