National Energy System Operator (NESO) sits at the heart of the UK’s energy transition, aiming to produce the first of their kinds strategic energy plans across generation, transmission and distribution. The Electricity Network Strategy Development & Implementation teams sit within the Strategic Energy Planning directorate, producing GB’s first Centralised Strategic Network Plan. In these high‑profile teams, we have roles for Strategy Engineers to lead the development of new strategic network planning policies and processes. This role will be based from our Warwick HQ, offering hybrid working between office and home, and we are open to full‑time, part‑time and flexible working arrangements.
Responsibilities
 * Develop and advance GB’s network planning vision through horizon scanning, identifying risks and opportunities.
 * Engage with European TSOs to align domestic plans with EU strategy, delivering insights and implementation support.
 * Collaborate internally with Strategic Energy Planning, Markets, and Connections, and externally with TOs, Ofgem, and DESNZ to explore strategic opportunities and policy relevance.
 * Translate government ambitions and future seabed leasing rounds into coherent network strategy policy and process frameworks.
 * Embed strategy recommendations into business‑as‑usual processes, embedding network design recommendations across the organisation.
Qualifications
 * Baseline understanding of an energy system area (power system engineering, transmission/distribution, connections, innovation or policy). A desire to learn is preferred.
 * Multi‑disciplinary teamworking with technical experts across policy, economics, power systems, and data science.
 * Excellent written and verbal communication; clear “story‑telling” and concise reports and slide packs.
 * Strategic thinking, curious mindset, end‑to‑end approach, and novel presentation formats.
 * Process development: turn high‑level concepts into pragmatic steps for SMEs.
 * Problem solving in uncertain projects, adapting to unknowns and guiding SMEs.
 * Stakeholder relationship experience, building high‑quality internal and external relationships.
 * Project management experience, managing teams with work packages, Gantt charts, risk management, or similar tools.
