The force is seeking applications from substantive Inspectors/Detective Inspectors or substantive Chief Inspectors/Detective Chief Inspectors looking to transfer, to join SYP in delivering the best service ensuring the force continues to improve, delivering the highest quality service for members of the public. Please note, Inspectors applying to this role must have 18 months of substantive service (Including NPPF Portfolio)– periods of continuous temporary service will be counted. Your NPPF Portfolio must be completed and signed off. About the role: As a Chief Inspector/Detective Chief Inspector, you form part of a local senior leadership team, working collectively with colleagues to deliver excellent policing services. On appointment, we will assess successful candidates’ skills and experience, and they accept they will be considered as part of the force cadre responsibilities, where you may be performing one or more of the below listed roles following appropriate training and mentoring: 1) Force critical incident manager, tactical firearms 2) PIP level two manager 3) Public order bronze or silver. Unless otherwise exempt from PSU; for uniformed applicants we expect you will be PSU trained to level two and have deployed operationally twice during the last 12 months (exceptional circumstances are considered). If you are not already a trained and accredited bronze commander, be prepared to undertake this challenging role. If you are an existing public bronze commander, be prepared to train as a silver commander. You will play an intrinsic part in ensuring the public receives the very best service from us, by working proactively and collaboratively with colleagues. The process is now open and will consist of the following: Step 1: Online Application - Closing Date: Midnight – Sunday 19 th October 2025 All candidates will be required to complete the online application (Oracle), which will include answering two CVF based questions and confirming you meet eligibility criteria. Candidates will also need to have written Line Manager comments and sign off from their Chief Superintendent – this can be uploaded as an attachment, along with a copy of your last completed PDR (prior to the new oracle system PDR). These are assessed by Chief Officers; against the Competency and Values Framework (CVF) and scored one to five, successful applications will need to meet the pass mark of three on both questions to be shortlisted. Consideration will be given to any restrictions on location of deployment where possible, however filling vacancies based on force demand is a priority.
